Who was survey and when?

Libraries that are using Drupal for their web site or planning to use Drupal for their website were surveyed from May 1, 2009 to June 15, 2009.
71 libraries completed the survey.

Type of Library

Academic libraries represented the largest group with 37 University, College, or Community College libraries responding.
26 Public Libraries responded.
The remainder of the libraries were made up of a vendor, a consortium, Government, Special, School, and Medical Libraries.

The Drupal security team receives reports of all sorts all the time. Some of them are false positives by security scanning software. Today we got a report about a Trojan being detected in Drupal 6.10 and 6.13 by TrendMicro OfficeScan version 10, in the following files: modules/color/color.install - BQDR_IRCBOT.BZQ modules/profile/profile-wrapper.tpl.php - TROJ_SWIZZOR.KXV modules/translation/translation.module - TROJ_FRAUDLO.LL

Anyone who has developed a relatively complex Drupal site will be able to vouch that, while launching a new site is relatively simple, continuous integration becomes very tricky once the site has actually gone live. This problem becomes especially pronounced when there is more than one developer on a project, and when the project is being built using proper development methodology.

The following example will illustrate this problem more clearly, as well as explain the use case of the Context / Features / Spaces module stack that we are writing here at Development Seed.

The Drupala Installation Profile is built on the Drupal 5.x Drigg Installation for social bookmarking and the Advanced Profile Kit for social networking. The site architecture makes extensive use of Views, Panels, and multiple content types to build a portal organized around taxonomy terms that includes blogs, articles, social bookmarks, and user profiles. The Drigg base theme has been redesigned to position featured categories in the primary links section and Drigg categories in the sidebar. This allows for an easy customization of the site structure to support virtually any topic. FCKeditor is pre-installed and configured for WYSIWYG blog & article publishing. The Drupala theme is two columns, optimized for APK & Drigg, and cross-browser tested in FF, IE6, IE7, Chrome, Safari, and Opera.

I live in Vim, but finally got tired of editing my .module files without syntax highlighting - ugh. Turns out all you have to do is tell vim what the file is so that it knows what to shade.

Make sure that the following is in your vimrc file - notice the filetype on line:

" Switch syntax highlighting on, when the terminal has colors
" Also switch on highlighting the last used search pattern.
filetype on
if &t_Co > 2 || has("gui_running")
  syntax on
  set hlsearch
endif

Then place the following in ~/.vim/filetype.vim, restart Vim and you are all set!

"  ~/.vim/filetype.vim
" tell Vim what a .module file is

There are two options when you want to create a FAQ page for your site. One is to hand code an HTML page which can be a pain or you could use the FAQ module and save yourself the nightmare of manually adding in HTML. The module creates a FAQ content type and a nice FAQ layout page.

Groups - Events: Sydney July Meetup - Online Video

3rd thursday of the month again, we'll be having our regular meetup on Thursday, July 16th. This month we will be back at our regular venue, the ABC Centre. (Next month is August 20th)

The last monthly meetup was great. We changed the venue and had a more social gathering at a nearby pub. I was a bit worried, but it turned out really well. I think everyone had a good time and there were a lot of new people. I will definitely try organizing some more social meetups if everyone is still keen. Thanks again to the people who showed up, especially the new faces.

This month we'll be at the ABC Centre again and we'll be focusing.
We'll also be running the support sessions again, since that seems to be a popular segment so bring your laptop!

Since late last year we’ve been dreaming of a 2.0 for TopNotchThemes. Our current base theme packs in a TON of advanced features, but there is always room to evolve. So for the past few months we’ve been listening closely to our customers and the Drupal community, and plotting ~~world domination~~ a revolution in theming.

So much of what you want to do with your sites isn’t rocket science — if you’re already a Drupal themer! We’re talking about things like adding a slideshow or sidebar pullout menu, changing the theme width, adding a different list style, changing a block’s colours, centering banner ads, styling a View, floating article images, or changing the comment layout for a certain content type.

Dries Buytaert: Hundred million spam attempts blocked

At Mollom, our spam-filtering startup targeted toward eliminating comment and post spam, we've just reached two important milestones: we blocked our 100,000,000th spam message, and we're now actively protecting over 10,000 websites.

It was only about three months ago that we celebrated our 50 million message milestone, and two months before that we reached twenty-five million. These milestones are coming fast now. Will we double again in the next three months? Only time will tell.

In fact, these statistics are for our public servers only, and don't include message processing on private servers we operate on behalf of our larger clients. Mollom filters about an additional 4 million messages each day for Netlog, for instance.
