Drupalcamp Atlanta 2009 Announcement: Video Coverage of 20 Sessions Now Available!

November 3, 2009 - 09:15

Drupalcamp Atlanta Session Videos One of the over-riding goals of the Drupalcamp Atlanta organizers was to provide as much video footage of the event as possible in order to share back to the community at large. We also heard from a lot of people that had a conflict of interest with the date, were turned away by the weather, or may have attended, and wanted to see two or more sessions that overlapped.

Thanks to some Herculean efforts by folks like Atlanta Drupal User Group members Utzu Logigan and David Fugate our vision is nearing a reality. The video crew has been meticulously editing and processing a lot of footage the last few weeks. We are proud to release 20 videos, and still have several more left to complete – I am told the remaining coverage should be done within a few weeks.

Bringing Drupal to the NFL’s Miami Dolphins!

October 12, 2009 - 03:27

Miami Dolphins & Drupal

For the past two months or so, Mediacurrent has been working intensively on a project that is near and dear to my heart. We formed a development partnership with Crossborders, a New York City based content creation company. Crossborders overhauled the entire design and functionality for the National Football League's (NFL) Miami Dolphins. We were brought in late to the Drupal development cycle to help with the much-needed final pushes in order to take the site live.

Drupal vs. SharePoint from a Developer's Viewpoint

October 5, 2009 - 18:12

Drupal v Sharepoint

After working in organizations that adopted both Drupal and SharePoint, I have been asked on several occasions my thoughts on the differences between the two platforms.  While I was developing a Sharepoint site a few years ago I remember looking around for comparisons and was surprised about the lack of information.  In 2007, Dries Buytaert, the founder of Drupal, wrote a post that really inspired me that I responded to in the comment section.

Integrating Video Into Drupal

October 3, 2009 - 19:53

Web video is here to stay. If your Drupal site's not using video now, you'll probably be implementing it very soon just to keep up with the Jones's. Navigating the vast landscape of web video terminology, best practices and hosting providers is its own project in and of itself. A Drupal site administrator that's taking on the task of implementing a suitable web video solution can quickly become overwhelmed. We've had the opportunity to work on several Drupal projects involving web video implementation. Here are several pieces of the video puzzle that should be considered before settling on a video solution.

Drupalcamp Atlanta 2009 – Wrap-Up and Key Takeaways

September 24, 2009 - 16:13

Drupalcamp Atlanta

Last weekend was the first ever Drupalcamp Atlanta, and I am proud to report that things went really well. As I write this, we've had 11 straight days of downpours in metro Atlanta and flooding throughout the city. As a result, we had a higher percentage of no-shows than we would have liked, but about 200 Drupal'ers braved the weather and made it out.

September 14, 2009 - 23:15

Drupalcamp Atlanta SOLD OUT!We are now less than a week to go and final plans are being ironed out for the inaugural Drupalcamp Atlanta happening this Saturday, September 19th. We have coordinated what we think will be an informative, exciting, and fun event with lots of opportunities to network with your peers. For those who can’t make it, we are trying to provide as much video footage as possible.

Furthermore, we have released the official schedule, and posted detailed directions on the Drupalcamp Atlanta website. In addition, we are trying to accommodate all those who are on the waiting list – if you are on the list we will be sending out updates this week. Keep in mind, this is an all-volunteer, first-ever initiative in our region – we are bound to run into some speed bumps, but are doing our best to pro-actively address any issues.

The Value of Post-Launch Drupal Services and Support

August 6, 2009 - 13:31

Mediacurrent's Drupal Services Checklist CONGRATULATIONS! You may be one of the estimated 400,000+ people or organizations that have launched a Drupal site since the open-source content management system's (CMS) inception. Not to take the wind from your sails, but the work on your Drupal site is not immediately over after you launch – it is really just beginning. In short, a website developed using an open source or proprietary platform, is not a one-time capital expenditure. The "car" analogy is often used in the Web 2.0 world, but it is germane. When one makes a major purchase like an automobile, the expectation is that a certain amount of ongoing maintenance and support comes with the territory – oil needs to be changed, brakes replaced, tune-ups, etc. However, the "build and forget it" approach taken by some is a recipe for disaster. The most highly trafficked, award-winning, content-driven, user-friendly sites are regularly refined to ensure peak performance.

Drupalcamp Atlanta Fever is in the Air!

August 3, 2009 - 21:00

Drupalcamp Atlanta AttendeesWhenever a group organizes a conference for the first-time there are a lot of unknowns – the phrase "if you build it will they come" is always in the back of your mind. However, I am happy to report that the response so far to the inaugural Drupalcamp Atlanta has been just awesome – as I write this, we have 158 attendees, 15 sessions, 9 sponsors, 2 keynote speakers with strong Drupal credentials, and a passionate organizing committee. We’re setting a goal of trying to sell out at 250, which is the max capacity the venue can adequately hold.

Case Study: How Drupal is Helping the Medical Advertising Community

July 22, 2009 - 16:23

Neurowebcast We recently completed a relatively small, but really cool Drupal v6 microsite that exemplifies to me how open-source is impacting traditional advertising channels (i.e. print, TV, radio, etc.). Unfortunately, the website (Neurowebcast.com) is for invite only guests, but works similarly to other messaging chats you have probably seen online. Our collaborators on the project, Shaw Science Partners and Turner Studios, are two Atlanta based organizations with world-class reputations in their respective fields. Shaw is one of the leading pharmaceutical marketing agencies in the world, and work closely with prominent thought leaders in the medical community. Turner Studios is a subsidiary of Turner Entertainment Group (TEG) and provides turnkey services for film, video, and audio production.
