A snapshot of active groups for the week November 22-29, 2009. Probably a little unfair because of the Thanksgiving holiday, but it does show a good mix of groups.

This is one of my favorite reports, because it goes beyond the popularity of "hits." We weight the posting of original content higher than commenting, which is weighted higher than just viewing. So far the month of November, the 2010 ALSC Bill Morris Seminar community was the most active because it had a good distribution of new content, comments, and readers.
We hope to see more communities of practice/interest show up in this report over time, not just ALA working groups.

Activity in ALA Connect by type and month

This report clearly shows the current cycle of Connect usage - growth, big peak because of Annual Conference, slowdown. Numbers are still good after Annual, and they're generally higher than April and May, which is good. We expect another big peak in January for Midwinter, but over time, we hope groups will use Connect on a regular basis throughout the year.

This is a great graph of the overall pattern of usage on ALA Connect. It's pretty obvious when Annual was, but it's gratifying to see content staying at a higher level afterwards than before the conference. In this context, "post" means original content of any type (post, online doc, discussion, etc.).

MentorConnect launched in mid-September, so these numbers are pretty good for the first couple of months of usage. We need to promote this service more.

Types of participants in ALA Connect by month

In this chart, "register" means new accounts created. "Log in" is pretty self-explanatory, but it doesn't tell the whole picture, so we also included "access" as a barometer. "Access" tells us how many people looked at something other than the home page after they logged in. Really happy about those numbers, especially since they generally go up over time.

Quick view of how many ALA members have logged in to Connect so far (7,045) and how many non-ALA members have created accounts on the site (1,110 total). This is right about where we'd hoped to be at this point in terms of member logins. We've been happily surprised about the number of non-members joining Connect. It's great to have so many people participating!
