May Meeting - 10 Essential Drupal Modules
Last month's meeting at Poacher's Arms seemed to work out well for everyone, so we'll plan to return for this month's meeting. Jeremy Richardson of rTraction will be talking about the 10 essential Drupal modules, ones their team use on almost every project. It should be an interesting discussion for people with a broad range of Drupal experience, so I hope we'll see you all there.
London, OntarioBrisbane May meet-up: Saturday 30th
Attention all Brisbane Drupalers!!
Our next meet-up is coming up quickly with the aim to bring along all your friends, family and colleagues who are new but interested in Drupal, Drupal dabblers, or those interested in furthering their Drupal skills.
So start the round-up at your workplace, interest groups or family -- get the word around that Saturday 30th May is our first Drupal skills day!
- Anyone interested in enhancing their Drupal skills?
- Have questions regarding the benefits of Drupal?
- Is there a module that is inhibiting you from going forward with your site?
We'll be happy to give spontaneous help on topics such as inserting images into content, getting WYSIWYG editors running, first time with Views...
For our regulars, please come prepared to sit alongside others or just to chat and join the fun.
Bring your laptops, your Drupal skills (no matter what level), your questions, your websites and most of all just come along and meet up with the current regulars who are interested in sharing any knowledge they've gleaned along the way.
Morning-tea provided by Marmaladesoul, so please remember to sign up.
Looking forward to seeing you there and meeting some new faces!

Drupal Joins CMS Showdown in BarCamp Bangkok
BarCamp Bangkok 3 will be held on 23-24 May 2009 (See BarCamp Bangkok site). A Group of CMS users/developers in Thailand is trying to organize a kind of CMS Showdown at the event.
Currently there are three teams participating: Joomla!, WordPress and Drupal. Anyway this CMS Showdown still call for participation from other CMS. The event is not actual competition but fun event of porting prototype theme to each CMS within the BarCamp night. All results from the Showdown will be released as GPL.
Come and join us if you're Drupaller living in Bangkok at the moment!
Here is the original text from BarCamp Bangkok site:
============================================
Note: For Thai version, please read here.
You might hear of CMS Showdown, the competition among top CMSs to create a web site with the same requirement. Now we gonna have it in the night of BarCamp Bangkok 3!
What to do?
Not the actual competition like the original one (with the measurement on time and line of code), we just want to create something useful for Thai web site owners and developers. The goal is to port a single theme/template to each CMS's own theme/template system before dawn! The final themes/templates will be released under GPL and are freely available for everyone.
How to participate?
Each CMS has a team. Now we have three teams participating:
- Joomla! (team leader: @JoomlaCorner)
- WordPress (team leader: @iMenn)
- Drupal (team leader: @kengggg)
If you want to join any of these teams, please contact the team leader to get to know each other and prepare your supply for the SHOWDOWN!
If you're other CMS developer (e.g. Typo3, DotNetNuke, ...) and want to join, please contact @markpeak (markpeak@gmail.com) for the account and tools setup.
What to bring?
We will provide hosting facility and account for each team (including SSH and FTP). You need to bring your own laptop, power cord, and any other tools necessary for your web development approach (e.g. Firebug, your favourite IDE/editor)
More details will come on Saturday (23rd) daytime slot and the showdown will begin after dinner.

The Sprint is meant to hit the UX issue queue, which is long and winded, and fix as much as we can. The date is right after the DrupalJam on June 26, so a lot of Drupalers may be on location.
Bojhan and Yoroy worked out a detailed plan for the issues to work on, in detail look here: http://www.bojhan.nl/ux-sprint-the-plan/#more-148
We plan to work on the following issues:
Menus
Creating a menu item is mainly troubled by lack of connection with the actual page you are linking to, we will work on many issues regarding validation and optimizing the menu’s listing page.
Blocks
The current interaction of Blocks is optimized for moving a lot of blocks around, but not particularly for just adding one block. We will work on patches, to optimize the first-time experience of adding a block.
Taxonomy
The taxonomy interface has been left untouched for many years, while categorizing your content is a fundamental task., We will work on a number of critical issues that keep people from learning how Taxonomy works..
Text
Our users are task driven and time starved, yet we give them descriptions that need a lot of thought to understand. We will work on removing and rewriting descriptions that don’t get their main point across.
Modules
The current mockups for the module page still leave a lot of issues left untouched. We will work conceptually on improving the experience of installing and managing modules.

PanamaNWDUG May Meet-up
We're at Manchester University again this month, though there has been a room change due to exams. This month it's at the Samuel Alexander building, room A202, University of Manchester, just off Oxford Road.
It'll make life easier if we can meetup at the Kro Bar opposite the Students Union and then head over to the Samuel Alexander building together.
If anyone gets lost, tweet Dan or call him on 07976 357732.
Admission is free, and you're welcome to bring your Drupal questions and problems, as well as any projects you'd like to demo.
This month there'll definitely be discussion about the upcoming DrupalCampUK.
We usually have a good turnout of people, ranging from complete beginners with the software to full-time developers, so if you're looking to learn more about Drupal, this user group is a great place to start.
We like to have a mix of demos, breakout sessions and general Drupal banter with time for questions and one-on-one help.
There's the added option of moving on to a nearby pub for refreshment afterwards...
Thanks again to Farzana and the National Centre of e-Social Science for organising the venue.
