is there a way to make google (and other search engine) to search in my site so that some one searching on google could find my site ?

The biggest key seems to be having regularly updated relevant content. Google and other search engines have "robots" - programs which scan the internet indexing pages along the way. Also having other "important" sites (high traffic sites) linking to your site will help your Google page rank.

The first step is to get a link from a site that is already crawled by Google, that way the Googlebot will find you right away!

or use the gsitemap module to create a google site map and then go to google webmaster tools to submit your site map... that will get them to start crawling your website very quickly..

it still doesn't mean that you'll show up anywhere near the top of their searches.. but it's a good start..

Gsitemap works well for me. This will get your pages crawled but as somebody has pointed out, it wont guarentee you a high position in the results.
