As suggested by TR in #864954-9: uc_flatrate.install still references db_num_rows(), I am offering to become co-maintainer of the 6.x-2.x branch of Ubercart. I would like to see a number of the currently open issues resolved in one way or another, and am willing to dedicate some time to this. I think that my other Ubercart contributions listed at http://drupal.org/user/246492 speak for themselves.

I have already attempted to discuss this directly with both Andy_Lowe and TR via their contact forms, but have not received any response.

Longwave is pretty visible in the community and his help has been really valuable with regard to Ubercart patches. He gets my vote.

Bumping in the hope that Andy_Lowe, TR or Island Usurper will eventually read this.

My vote is for longwave !

What do I have to do to get some kind of response here, even if it's just "we don't want your help"? I have tried to contact TR, Island Usurper and Andy_Lowe via their contact forms, and received no response from anyone. Do I have to escalate this to the webmasters queue similar to #838824: Uncooperative module maintainer?

There are a number of RTBC bug fixes and feature requests seemingly being ignored by the current maintainers:

#529110: Users misunderstand "Remove” checkbox on cart page
#795676: "Submit order" button not disabled on click when jquery_update is installed
#881752: Cart Links - Missing code for "Empty cart" function
#956104: uc_catalog should not delete Vocabulary
#975194: Create Order does not follow email address tag recommendations, and gives error
(and more)

I would be more than happy to commit these, work on any subsequent bug reports (and some other open issues), and port the patches to 7.x-3.x where possible.

The last 5.x release has also been broken for five months, even though a fix was committed the same week: #880908: preg_replace() [<a href='function.preg-replace'>function.preg-replace</a>]: Unknown modifier '&gt;'

@TR, Island Usurper & Andy Lowe - it's not cool you guys are blowing this request off. Would have thought you'd be grateful for an extra pair of knowledgeable UberCart hands...

We've been co-maintaining the sage pay gateway module for ubercart with longwave and I am a heavy user of some of his valuable contributions to ubercart as modules (uc_vat and uc_coupons) and have seen him actively responding to issues in both ubercart and his own modules so I definitely think this might be a nice transfusion of fresh blood into this project.

Even more, it seems like a nice project to have as many idoneous hands as they are offered and not be let stay behind.

We are definitely not underestimating the efforts put by TR, Island Usurper and Andy Lowe in their work to support this project in both their 5.x and 6.x versions but I also feel the silence in the issue queue and accepting this kind of offers will definitely help this module.

A big +1 from me

As you can see here http://drupal.org/project/issues/statistics/ubercart?sort=desc&order=nee...
Ubercart is the #1 module in terms of # of patches that need to be reviewed (besides drupal core & drupal.org). This is a bad sign & further evidence that this module needs more or better maintainers. The fact that project founder rszrama http://drupal.org/user/49344 has ditched this project for commerce module makes this issue ever more pressing. Are the ubercart maintainers purposefully letting this get backed up -> so that it becomes a burden long-term & therefore forces people to switch to the commerce module? These are just a few of the objective concerns that I and fellow Drupalers likely share.

Future conversation on this topic should be directed here : #1033204: Ubercart maintainers are being uncooperative , since there is no point in duplication as this current issue has now been superseded by this new issue

+1. longwave's Ubercart connection, (co)maintainer on 29 Ubercart dependent projects, speaks for itself. He is consistently active in the issue queues, and consistently courteous and helpful.

I'm on my 4th project using UC.

Its sad too see lack of communication from the other maintainers especially with now a third commerce module on the way.

Its understandable that people (current maintainers) might be busy but with a module like UC which is for now the best option for running a Drupal powered store its in the projects best interest to have new skilled people willing to help out with it and make an effort to make them a co maintainer.

Another week, no response. Andy_Lowe should be removed as project maintainer if he is no longer interested in maintenance of the project.

Yah seems like maybe someone doesn't want UC to continue or at least the 6.2.x line? Seems odd and at least from my side doesn't look good. For me ATM I don't need that much functionality but if development of the line has gotten stagnate for my self I might have to look at non Drupal alternatives and DC is still in alpha so long ways before its an alternative.

I second #14 and #15. @Longwave - sorry you're having so much trouble here dude. Not cool at all.

Just to chime in a bit more I do see new commits to the UC code here 6.x-2.x-dev 2011-Jan-25 and on the bazzar http://bazaar.ubercart.org/drupal6/ubercart/

Seems Lyle is making the commits so UC is still being worked on but there isn't any basic communication about the co maintainer application from any of the UC team. Come on a small line like "Were busy but will get this done" would be welcome at least so current and potential users don't go some where else.

Island Usurper’s picture

For what it's worth, I'm in favor of longwave being a co-maintainer. I'm sorry for my poor communication. The 7.x queue and other projects have been commanding all of my attention.

Andy_Lowe’s picture

I apologize for taking so long to respond to this. I was busy with the holidays and vacation, but that is a poor excuse. Regardless I fully support Longwave being a co-maintainer for the 6.x-2.x branch.

Many thanks to Andy, and everyone else who's shown their support in this thread.

Good times, good times. Looking forward to UC moving forward.

Nice work. Probably the best Ubercart news I've heard in ages.
