Before I begin - yes I have read through http://drupal.org/node/705166 extensively. I'm pretty sure I'm only one step away from having this working. I have set up the product and assigned node access as a product feature and linked it to the relevant quiz node, set all the permissions as instructed in the quoted discussion - but, when I test it with test user accounts, I gain access to the node without having to pay anything?

Any advice much appreciated

I would be curious whether you solved this issue. I am implementing a similar feature myself along with video.

I haven't encountered your issue yet though.

I'm also doing a similar thing, and having the same issue.
I have a test site where the user is going to sell time in a chat room. The chat rooms are nodes, and I unchecked all the roles in the access control tab, and checked "Enable per content node access control settings". The admin/user/permissions has access chats checked for the authenticated user. The plan it to allow access through a product purchase, and node access as a feature.
If I create a chat as admin, then log in as my authenticated test user, as long as they know the link, they can get in and use the chat room. They don't have to go through the product purchase to gain access.
