rel=lightbox" links don't work for internal links "brokenimage.jpg"

I've been stuck on this for days, lightbox2 works fine for the most part, if i click on the contact link it brings up the contact form in an iframe no problem.

also, if i add the ref to a link outside the site it works fine (eg. Search google works!!!!)

but if i add it to a link to any page within my site, i get the nasty brokenimage.jpg, and it does nothing! (eg. Click Here doesn't work!!!)

i've scoured posts to find a solution, disabled modules, etc. everything i can think of. I still just don't understand what that means, and how to troubleshoot this.

any help is appreciated!!!
