I want to set up a site with two or more locales, but as i see the site specific variables site-slogan, site-mission, site-footer etc. stored in variables table and there is no way to translate it to other languages yet. Am i right?
All that i found that the multi-site patch, but that is not exactly what i want...

Someone workin' on this now?
If not, i want to start it...

I am also setting up new multi-locale Drupal sites. I have found similar troubles in location.

Indeed site specific variables are an example of location lacks. However, there are other issues. For instance in the post

I pointed up the need to translate the "link" and "description" fields of the Drupal pages. This kind of troubles arises again with the "description" field of items in a taxonomy vocabulary which are always displayed in the default locate.

I am very new in Drupal, but I think there are significant holes in the location machinery, a quite quite importante resource in a collaborative website.

From above comments, I would like to point up an additional idea. Location for each language is supported by a single blog field in the database, however I can see there are two different kind of strings. On the one hand there are strings generated by the different Drupal modules, i.e. Drupal specific strings. One the other hand there are strings generated by administrators/users when setting up their sites, i.e. site specific strings.

All displayed strings must be translated in multi-locale site, however it would be valuable to create any procedure to split both sets. For instance to allow the "locategettext" module to generate separate .PO files.
