I'd like to have it so that only the home page of my website is running but the rest of the site is gone. I've backed up the site however I'm not sure if I should simply delete all of the other pages from the server or if that would cause Drupal to have problems running the home page. Does anyone have any insight or knowledge of this?

The goal does not really make sense. To what purpose do you wish to do this? The page generally would have links, how do you expect them to behave? How do you expect to administer the page? Note the pages do not exist on the server unless you are using page caching.
Shutting the site down
It's a first step in the process of shutting down the site entirely but we still want people who know the site to be able to see the main page and use it to link to our new site. So you're saying that, unless we use page caching, we should be able to delete the rest of the site without issue?
Why don't you just make a
Why don't you just make a flat HTML page and serve that as the main page?
We could
We could but since we already have this page we thought we could just delete the rest of the site and only keep the files needed to support the main page. Why create another page unnecessarily, ya know. Thanks for your help!
You can do that but you will
You can do that but you will want to do something with any of the links.
