I just installed OC in a current Drupal site using Views 2.12. Though OC does not complain and the cache_objects table got created on install there is no OC caching option visible in Views' configuration. I just get the standard options "none" and "time-based".

You will not see the caching in that option. You have to select a different row plugin, which is called 'Object cache'.
