Issues with Vertical Tabs, Multigroup, & Node Referenece/Node Relationships

Issue Summary

I'm having a bit of an issue with vertical tabs, content multigroup, and node references. I noticed that there is a documented issue with content multigroup mentioned here:

I have an additional issue which may or may not be related to this first one. I could live with the multigroups being rendered above the vertical tabs. However, I'm having a problem when node reference fields are included as part of the multigroup. When vertical tabs are enabled, I can search a node reference using autocomplete and select the node reference. It even appears to save properly. However, the node reference is only saved for the first instance of the multigroup. In additional fields, node references are not saved and show up blank, although other fields appear to save properly. If vertical tabs are disabled for this fieldgroup, I don't experience these problems.

Once again, I'm not sure if these two problems are related, and so I created a separate issue. However, if vertical tabs are disabled, I don't have these problems.
