The bookpost project does something similar to the filter part of this project, although it does it (arguably) a little better: it fetches book covers and adds "read online" links if the book is freely available online.

Could it be considered to merge the two projects? I have also made the request in #1013636: merge with the openlibrary API project? on the other issue queue.

I released a Drupal 7 module to import book data from Google Books API and there is a viewer as well configurable through a text filter.
