I can't duplicate this at all using the latest 7.x-1.x-dev code, and the error message sounds completely unrelated to Gravatar.

i've wanted to install the devel and gravatar module with the integrated module installation from d7 (which downloads the module by itself). so i expect, that the bug lies in that function.

Looks like someone else had this same problem, and yes it's unrelated to Gravatar. I'm going to merge this issue with #1013124: Error enabling multiple modules, so you'll want to follow that issue instead.
