I'm about to commit the initial port of Drupal 7. All credit goes to troky, a brand new Drupal user, who dove in and did an amazing job getting this ported and working. At this point, I haven't looked at the code at all. The only involvement I've had is getting it synced up to CVS because some file names needed to be changed and some stuff removed.

This is being committed as is. I don't have time to get into Drupal 7 right now. From my initial testing, it seems to work pretty good other than some style glitches. I haven't done in depth testing.

The D7 branch will likely be lagging behind in development for a while. I will periodically catch it up but I don't have time to work on both at once. If you are using D7, I suggest you keep an eye on the D6 commits to see where things are going.

If anyone wants to help keep D7 in sync, patches are always welcome. :)

Thanks troky!

Michelle

Forgot something: Use the latest CTools and Views and these patches:

#999302: ctools_jump_menu() definition error
#1015662: Need tests: can't find/parse plugin .info file

Good news! Looking very much forward to trying out the D7 version of AF.

Oh, I should also mention that this is not Node Comments compatible since NC hasn't been ported yet.

Will troky help you and become an official maintainer of advanced forum?

Thanks for the initial Advanced Forum port to Drupal 7. That's wonderful news indeed.

Some related news and info:

@alliax: We're discussing it but he's going on vacation so it won't be for a couple weeks.

@juan_g: Uh... Not sure how that's related. LOL! Little late for coder upgrade when it's already upgraded. And, yeah, I was kinda aware Drupal 7 is out. ;)

Of course, sorry, just sharing today's D7 excitement. :)

Coder could be useful for people testing and contributing patches to this upgrade, if anyone is not using it yet.

@alliax: I hope so. I'll be away for two weeks but when I return I'll be here to keep 7.x version alive and synced with Michelle's 6.x. Don't worry :)

@juan_g: Coder module saved me many hours in 6->7 porting process, especially pointing at changed/obsolete API functions with appropriate links.

@juan_g: It's ok. I just thought it was an odd comment. :)

@troky: That would be wonderful. I feel bad that I can't give it much attention but I just have too much going on and I'm not ready to abandon the 6.x branch.

Not sure why I left this active. Nothing more to say here...

This is excellent news, as I prefer to start new sites in D7, to avoid having to upgrade later. Will this port be available on the Advanced Forum project page?

michelle’s picture

It already was available... Just needed to click on view all releases. I set it to show the snapshot on the front page for now. If I start getting a ton of support requests for it, though, I'll probably take it back off until Troky is back to help.

That's a wonderful news since Michelle has been alone maintaining this module with over 16K sites using it. :-)
I don't use it myself as I'm a bit careful with forum as they can eat your time easily with success, but I'm considering creating one for a new site I'd like to do with Drupal 7.
Thank you troky and enjoy your holidays.
