New drupal project
I am currently in the process of finalizing an e-commerce design that will be implemented using x-cart. I already have a developer that will be working on that part of the project. While the site will mainly be a store, it will link off to another site that will be content oriented. I want to use drupal to run the second site.
The second site would need to have the same header and footer as the x-cart site (at least as far as look and feel and the link behavior) in order to have a seamless visual / user experience. Users should not know they've left one site and entered another, so theme/skin quality will be top priority (designs will be provided).
For phase 1, aside from the theme/skin work, I would like to have some simple integration with x-cart. The x-cart design uses a traditional e-commerce login that requests an email and password for credentials. I would like these credentials used to log users in and out of drupal also.
Additionally, phase 1 will focus only on getting articles setup (no blogs, forums, etc. -- at least not yet). Though it would be nice to have a voting system like www.netscape.com -- but not mission critical.
The only users that will post articles will be admins. General users will only be allowed to post comments about the articles at this time.

It sounds very interesting. Basically it is an integration of x-cart into drupal right? I don't know much about x-cart but I was not able to use the drupal e-commerce package b/c of all its bugs and drawbacks(especially with the shipping calculator) so I would love to know more.

Hi, thanks for responding to my drupal post. Yes, it's kind of an integration between x-cart and drupal. But that word (integration) isn't very descriptive.
The two systems would really run separate from one another in my view. The main integration that I would like to see is the user credentials and the "My Account" section.
To be more descriptive... x-cart has a my account section that allows users to log into to check order status, etc. I don't want to loose the functionality that x-cart offers around this. And also, drupal has a my account section.. and I don't want to lose the functionality that drupal offers. So from an integration perspective, I would like these screens to be combined.
I want a user to be able to log in through one screen and land on a common page. That page would likely be an order history page (or an x-cart page in other words). The navigation would present the user with other x-cart options like track order, etc... but also drupal options like "recent posts, contact, etc."
Those links that are x-cart related would pull up x-cart screens. Links that are drupal related would pull up drupal screens. The style of those screens would all have a global footer and header and css so that the user experience would be seamless.
So then the only real integration beyond skin and theme would be setting the systems up to draw from the same login credentials. Or maybe setup mirror user id's so that both systems stay independent, but when a user logs into one system, that system also passes a login command to the other system. I'm not sure what the best approach is -- I'll look for you to tell me that.
