Hi guys,

I tried to post an issue but the garland theme and color module don't appear to have issue pages.

I setup a test version 5.0 beta 2 site with the garland theme to play around with. Now I can't remove my /files/ folder. I keep getting permission denied when trying to remove them using ws_ftp. I tried filezilla and had the same problem.

found this from searching on here, but it didn't solve the problem.

http://drupal.org/node/23535

garland leaves behind a lot of files and a folder(s) under /files/color/ which can't be removed unless I'm missing a switch somewhere. normally I can just delete a folder using my ftp programme.

thanks in advance for any tips

Phil.

Hi Phil,

I had a similar problem with tyhe garland theme. It created a new folder and bunch of files with each scheme, so I had a bunch of folders (about 15) from playing around with it.

There maybe a quicker way of doing this...but, this worked for me. You can't remove the folders and files because the "owner" of the folders isn't "you", so to speak.

Open a text editor, paste in the following. edit the garland-number to match the garland folder you want to remove.

Save the file as index.php. Upload it to your drupal sites' /FILES/ folder and then navigate to www.example.com/files. (/files/ is the default name Drupal expects the site files folder to be. You may have named that to something else when initially setting up your site.)

After a second you should see a message to indicate that the permissions have been set to 0777.

now you can remove the /color/ folder and everything in it using your ftp software.

// Set chmod permissions to 777
chmod ("color", 0777);
chmod("color/garland-1b805a2e", 0777);
chmod("color/garland-259ee7cd", 0777);
chmod("color/garland-280410aa", 0777);
chmod("color/garland-2a985ce1", 0777);
chmod("color/garland-910b7da4", 0777);
chmod("color/garland-e2aced97", 0777);
chmod("color/garland-e436f607", 0777);
chmod("color/garland-f0279b8b", 0777);
chmod("color/garland-f58e0d86", 0777);
print "Folder permissions change complete, you can now delete the folders using FTP software";

please note that there maybe a much quicker way of doing this....but, I was stuck a while back trying to remove a testbed of Drupal 5.0 because of the garland folder thing and the anove worked for me.

It's a pain in the neck, but, I believe there are improvements on the way with how the garland theme works. Which is welcome, because as the default theme, it looks great but if it creates problems like this for a lot of people, it might turn some off Drupal. I thinnk this particular issue has something to do with server configuration and it would be common with shared host accounts....which I imagine would factor in a large amount of users.

Anyway. hope that helps

Don't forget to edit the snippet above so the garland folder names match what's on your server!

I tried it but etdidn't work, when I open the /file folder, i'm redirected to the main page and the chmod didn't change.

Had the same problem.

Worked for me only after I commented
#SetHandler Drupal_Security_Do_Not_Remove_See_SA_2006_006
in /file/.htaccess.
(Remember to uncomment it after you're done)

Hope this helps...

Hi, is there a way to tell the server to turn off SAFE MODE for a while? Maybe by some code in the .htaccess ?

Changing/erasing .htaccess has accomplished nothing for me so far... I just want a Belgian Chocolate modded Garland theme! Could anyone just send the files to me?

Thanks!
