If I:

1) go into administer > settings > content-type.
2) then click 'configure' to configure the 'page' type.
3) then scroll down the page to 'Default comment setting:' section
4) and choose the "Disabled" option

It disables comments on all NEW page content types.

However all my old page nodes still have comments enabled..

I guess disabling comments on the page type doesn't update old nodes????

Is there any EASY way to MASS disable the comments on all my old page nodes?

I would prefer not to have to go in and manually do this on every node.. or even issue a manual sql statement to set whatever field is controlling this?

thanks in advance

I know that this is an old comment but it's for the seachers out there.

You can also update your database directley if you have access. If you are using mysql phpmyadmin or mysql browser but any SQL server will work much like this.

First lets see what types of nodes are avalable:
SELECT type, comment FROM node;
This will show a list of node types along with their comment status for all the nodes in your system.

Next we refine our query to make sure that we have the correct set selected.
SELECT type, comment FROM node WHERE type='blog';
This again should return a list but only of the blog type

Lastley we update our query to update only the comments in the blog type nodes.
UPDATE node SET comment=0 WHERE type='blog';

Digging into the database can be daunting if your not too SQL savvy but it can also be a very effective way to get a lot done fast, so long as you are very careful. Obviously you could just run the last command if you knew what you were doing, but just be aware that there is no Ctrl+Z :)

Thanks for posting the old comment. I was looking for a way to update all to on after bulk importing some content. You're a lifesaver.

+! on the thanks for posting this!

FYI,
SET comment=0
= Commenting set to Disabled

SET comment=1
= Commenting set to Read Only

SET comment=2
= Commenting set to Read/Write

It's homepage is here. I think it'll do what you want, though I haven't used it so I'm not sure.

Comment closer module

Hi,

Have you tested Comment closer module and is it reliable for long term ?

Thanks.

On Drupal 7 you have to modify the "node_revision" table, not just the "node" table. Set the comment field to 0 or 1 depending on what you are trying to do. I think this is because the node is an entity and so the values are really determined in the revision tables.

Just created new one,

For drupal-7 having the same requirement, did updated node and node_revision module for new comment setting.

module in sandbox

please test this on development environment(i am sure it will work), on safe-side.
