I am trying to set up a D7 test installation. To learn before I do any actual conversions - I have maybe 10 accounts running on D6 (done over a couple years). So, while I am not a hotshot, I do know my way around a little...

Usually i install a new D6 system by allowing Fantastico to install on my (public) server. Piece of cake...

I have tried to install D7 two ways:

1) Download D7 from Drupal and follow directions and 2) Create 6.19 D6, get it going, then run D7 conversion from local.

In both methods, during the install program, when I input the database names, I get the following message (this is after I fumble around to get the database, user and password correct):

Failed to connect to your database server. The server reports the following message: SQLSTATE[42000]: Syntax error or access violation: 1231 Variable 'sql_mode' can't be set to the value of 'TRADITIONAL'.

I have tried this maybe ten times using a variety of installs/conversions. Always same results. Any ideas?

I use Web Host Buzz with Linex and MySQL.

Thanks, Richard Hill

Your database server likely doesn't meet the requirements for mySQL which is MySQL 5.0.15 or higher. You probably have a pre 5.0.2 db server.
