Here is my case:

- I created a new content type with CCK, using Contemplate to control presentation.
- Registered users can create new nodes this content type.
- They can choose whether they want to pay for some extra information to show up for each node (I have also created the fields where they can fill in this extra information).

Now I am trying to do the following:
- Upon payment, a site administrator can indicate (per node) whether the extra information should be shown.
- When payment stops, the information should be hidden again, without deleting it from the database.

I could of course make the property part of the CCK node, and then disallow the author to edit this content type once they created it. Is there also a solution where the author can edit this content type, but cannot control the switch that determines whether the extra content is shown?

There was some work on adding this feature to CCK, but it looks stalled? See http://drupal.org/node/63240 and http://drupal.org/node/91030

Hi Richard,

Thanks for pointing me to this. This would indeed provide what I was looking for. I have left a message there, so that I'll keep in touch. When I have some time left I'll see if I can maybe contribute to adding this feature. I'm quite new to Drupal, so there is still a lot to learn for me.
