Taxoman commentedBumping - developers; please give us a ballpark perspective about a D7 release. 3rd quarter of 2011?

jefdrupal commentedI don't think that any of the developers are even watching this forum. It was sold to phase2. I don't think they have been addressing any issues, but of course, I may be wrong.
rovoYeah, the last commit was over 23 weeks ago. I think since the transition, it may have been put on the back-burner...

antiqel commentedHey all. We have been really slow to respond. We know and understand your frustration. I'm letting you know we are following this thread and will get back to you as soon as we can. Hang in there.

Taxoman commentedFYI:
10:08pm Feb 29 (2012):
"managingnews: @ABaumeier Our current plan is to keep Managing News on Drupal 6. We'll keep everyone in the loop as to any new developments!"
http://twitter.com/#!/ABaumeier/status/174595224482484225
http://twitter.com/#!/managingnews
At the moment that tweet is quoted on the Managing news front page, too.

likewhoa commentedWell that blows and I hope you guys don't take forever to port this to D7 because D6 is old news.
robin monks commentedActually, D6 is still supported, maintained and will continue to be readily available until at least Drupal 8 is released (sometime before or after the end of the world, depending on who you ask).
Although I agree having the 7.x version of the profile done is important for the health of the project; it is not a critical issue as Drupal 6 continues to run fine and is not a security or functional detriment.
mikemadison commentedWe've been looking at manually upgrading, but the lack of the Data processor for D7 is a real issue. Feeds works wonderfully in D7, but until we have Data it's going to be a painful conversion.
You can follow that discussion here - http://drupal.org/node/1420490
Comment #35
rovoWhy is Data critical to this?
batje commentedBecause the news items that feeds gathers are not stored as nodes, but as rows in tables managed by the data module. Only Feeds & Channels are nodes.
rovoIs it possible, that for D7, rather than a dependance on the Data module, items would be stored as Entities? That's why I'm confused about the need for the Data module, I imagine a slightly different storage.

my06 commentedI subscribe to this too, but I'm very disappointed that Phase2 Technology doesn't actively maintain the code, since 2011 no evolution, no response by the dev team... I'm wondering if this project has a future...

niccolox commentedA presenter at badcamp 2012 from i think from phase2 said managing news was "basically abandoned"
I asked him specifically and his answer was thus.. he did say he "should really know " its status
There should be video
Comment #42
cweagansI'm not counting on a port don by Phase2. Somebody should get in touch with them and volunteer to be the new maintainer =D
Comment #43
niccolox commentedI volunteer you
Comment #44
cweagansI've thought about it, but I'd only be interested if Phase2 completely turned the distro over to the community. Most of their distros have this weird fascination with the apps module and I don't want to have anything to do with that. I've been meaning to do a port for a while though, as I have a couple of sites that could really use it. I have the second half of December off from work, so maybe I'll take a crack at it and see how far I get.
sonicthoughts commentedcweagans you would be my hero if you would maintain!
niccolox commentedif I remember correctly, Managing News was the first Dev Seed stack (Features, Strongarm, Spaces, Context) distribution released. Followed quickly by OpenAtrium. Drupalcon Szeged 2008?
Anyway, there has been a lot of water under the bridge since then and lots of potential for a port to D7
and yes, it would be nice if Phase 2 handed it over.. there distro's seem tightly held to say the least
Comment #47
cweagansI'm not holding my breath, but https://twitter.com/cweagans/status/276464696759050242
Comment #48
omega8cc commentedManagingNews is no longer listed on their new website - see: http://www.phase2technology.com/what-we-do/
It looks like the project is looking for a new maintainer then?
geerlingguy commentedNoticing the writing on the wall for a while, I decided to jump ship to my own codebase for Catholic News Live (which was using Managing News for the D6 version)... I would love to help with Managing News for D7, but it seems the distribution is incredibly complex in terms of the number of features that would need to be upgraded—many of which require modules that require special work in upgrading from D6 to D7.
In some ways, I wonder if maybe building a new distribution with a simpler feature set for D7 would be more beneficial, along with some documentation on how to migrate from D6 to D7 using migrate.module or something like that.
This is assuming that Phase2 decides to basically ditch MN, which seems to be the case.
niccolox commentedimho, MN has always been over-engineered, was I think the first or second real Drupal distro
