Turning off label and button only works in Safari

My use for this module is mostly to get rid of the label and button, and only show the search box. I just created a new theme, and everything works as expected in Safari. However, in all other browsers I've tried (FF 3.6, Camino, Chrome, IE 6 and 8), the label and button are still there.

In a previous theme, I used some ugly CSS to get rid of both. I was hoping to avoid that this time. Most people can figure out what an empty text box is for these days, no need for ugly buttons.
