http://drupal.org/node/190815

1. This page is hidden 3rd level, but may be more important for new themers. Some tpl are here: http://drupal.org/node/778940, maybe we should divide them by modules or functionality (page, content, comment, user).

2. Not sure how can we smoothly update theme suggestion for D7.

Hi,
I'd be interested in working on this.

It seems that most templates are being reused so the links could be updated.
Exceptions are:
- D6 templates that didn't make it to D7 (would need to be marked as deprecated?)
- D6 templates that were renamed from D6 to D7 (poll-bar--block.tpl.php, poll-results--block.tpl.php)
- new D7 templates (would need to be linked to proper API page)
Perhaps the actual structure of the page could be kept, while integrating these exceptions?

Comments from doc staff? Do we have a Theming docs leader who we can talk about this?

Hello,
I didn't have any feedback on this, but I decided to go ahead and update the templates to Drupal 7, following the comments I made in #2. It is now yours to improve upon.

Hi - it looks like in the d5 version it was separated by module http://drupal.org/phptemplate - so that seems like a decent way to organize the pages.

There is really nobody managing the theme docs in a dedicated way, we need a lot of help with them! There's no docs staff, it's all volunteers, and not too many of us, so any help is much appreciated! (I'm Co-docs lead in charge of the online docs, but theming is probably one of my weakest areas, so I can't weigh in much on the theme docs related issues, and am trying to find people to help!)

If you can keep working and posting updates in the issue queue, I think that would be a great way to proceed. Thanks!

Hello,
Now that this "Core templates and suggestions" page has been refreshed, it should definitely be moved up a level, to replace "Template Files (.tpl.php)", which seems identical in nature, but almost empty.

In other words, I totally approve Iztok's comment #1 above. In order to make it happen:
- somebody with admin permission could move the page as discussed?
- the "Template Files (.tpl.php)" page could be overwritten with the content of Core templates and suggestions instead?

arianek’s picture

great - i'm going to see if jennifer can review the updated pages, and then i'm happy to move them around

I agree with moving these pages around as suggested in #6. The existing "template files (.tpl.php)" section http://drupal.org/node/778940 should be archived/unpublished, as it is almost completely useless. The new page http://drupal.org/node/190815 looks good -- I didn't check every link, but linking to api.drupal.org is a good idea rather than trying to document everything again, and the few links I did check were correct.

Go for it!

So, just making sure before I do this... all I'm doing is moving http://drupal.org/node/190815 up a level to replace http://drupal.org/node/778940 ...if that's right, what happens to the subpages of http://drupal.org/node/778940 should they be unpublished as well?

sylvain_a’s picture

Yes, exactly.
In my opinion, the other pages should be unpublished, with this exception:
Implementing RDFa, which should be moved elsewhere, since it doesn't belong in a list of templates.

I have a copy of the sub-pages, and I have merged some of the content where needed. When the move is done, it will be easier to continue the clean-up and improvement of the main template page.

Thanks!

arianek’s picture

alrighty, that's done - let me know if you want me to move the page http://drupal.org/node/190815 up to a specific spot in the nav. i've archived all the other pages and then set a redirect from http://drupal.org/node/778940 to the new page. i moved http://drupal.org/node/778988 to the RDF docs section.

not sure if you have more to track on this issue, if not, please mark it fixed. thanks!

It looks good to me!
I did minor edits to improve readability, so now i'm marking it as fixed.
