I looked around, but couldn't find anything that really addressed this except a side comment that it might be addressed in the 4.7 version. Can I have a menu item under Administrator that I create and doesn't show up except if you are an admin?

This is handy because I have block I change by hand frequently so I'd like to not have to dig through all that stuff, just have a direct link right under Adiminstator to save some hassle.

I did this, but found that when I was logged out that it showed up in the main menu, but when clicked gave an access error so I disabled it for now.

here's what I would do if I were you:

  1. create a new menu under administer / menus and call it Shortcuts.
  2. create in it all the admin shortcuts I need most often
  3. go to administer / blocks and look for the block called shortcuts.
  4. click configure
  5. now under "Page specific visibility settings" click the radio button: Show on only the listed pages.
  6. under pages enter: admin/*
  7. save changes
    1. this should do the trick. hope this helps.

Nice Hack :-)

It would do exactly what I wanted, just not the way I thought to do it. It would be nice to have the desired flexibility in the future, but this will certainly work for now.
