Hey i was wondering how i would go about printing the nodehierarchy_children_list view in my custom node.tpl.php.

I though something like this would work but turns out i was wrong.
print $nh_children_view

Have you tried something like this:

print views_embed_view('related_nodes_list', 'block_2', $node->nid);

where you specify the view name containing the children formatted as you like in block
