It would be great to have a way of tracking (tagging or categorizing and then a page view of such) modules that are up for adoption. That way a developer could easily make it known that a module is up for adoption and people could easily adopt them.

well, i created a username on drupal.org just for this purpose. i assigned my no longer maintained modules to this user named unmaintained. but it appears that someone blocked this user so he justr appears in search results: http://drupal.org/search/user/unmaintained. from there you are supposed to see a list of all his owned modules. sigh.

Assigning unmaintained modules to a special user is a hack, and one that is not accessible to other module developers. it's bad practice and should be reverted/fixed.

Actually, regardless of what else we do, there should be a taxonomy term called "unmaintained". This makes it immediately visible that the module is unmaintained, as well as provide new developers who want to adopt a module a place to look.

Of course, other measures are in order too, just as putting a note saying 'this module is unmaintained', with nice blink tags around it (well not exactly blinking, but you get the idea).
