It's possible with in Drupal implement an "External Database Interface", like in DaDaBIK.org or PhpMyEdit.org? How?

Hi,
This would be very helpful to many people porting web front ends from other implementations.
Can't we have a module to make Drupal treat rows from a table as content of a new content type, so users can submit entries to be added to the table as well.
