Hello,
I am looking to call the expectError function inside the drupal environment. Do you have to extend the DrupalUnitTests outside of drupal if you want to do this?

By the way, I think that the SimpleTest system is fantastic. Much friendlier than PhpUnit.

Yes you need to extend DrupalTestCase or SimpleTests WebTestCase if you don't there is no way you can access that function from Drupal.
