I've attempted both 7.x-1 versions available for download. I upload them to sites/all/modules and Drupal sees the module as version 6.x-1.3. Screenshot attached. Any ideas?

That looks a little crazy! I took a look and don't see anything that can be causing that. My guess is that you had the Drupal 6 versions sitting around the filesystem (maybe also in sites/all/modules) and Drupal was looking for that instead. Give it a try now and see if you get the same error and if you do look to see if there are other drupalforfirebug.module files sitting around in your Drupal 7 installation and remove those.
