Steven just pointed me to this great module. Unfortunately, I just developed a similar/same thing and put it up last week (taxonomy_user) :(. We (Development Seed) are already deploying taxonomy_user on one production site and are looking at deploying it on a couple more over the next year.

However, I don't want to put in effort in sth. that's already existing. Let me compare the modules and come up with a suggestion asap. If you can spare some time, it would be great if you could take a look at taxonomy_user as well and find out wether there is something in there that you would like to see in community_tags.

I was just looking at the two and would love to know the difference. One question on this one, does it use taxonomy at all for the tagging, or is tagedelic and community tagging totally separate from built-in free tagging of taxonomy?

Tagadelic and community_tags use taxonomy.

I'm all for combining the two projects. I don't really care which one ends up being "the one," although this one was technically first and has some Bryght guys working on it, too. I probably personally won't be putting any time into this, though, as it was for a client and they're happy enough with the way it currently works.
