Is there any plan to integrate with User Relationships module to the extent that users can choose which relationships they want to share with?

It was mentioned in #542720: User Relationships is not only for Friends / Add ability to select UR relationship types that it's not implemented yet, but should it be? I'd be happy to work on it if you could point me in the right direction.
