Update:

This issue is not happening with core Garland theme... but

I am seeing this with several other themes too

I'm also having this problem with custom fields. In IE8 with the Corolla theme, field labels and field values overlap.
Bartik+IE8 works fine. Corolla+Firefox works fine.

It only happens for multi-word labels.
Reducing the field label to one word is a possible work-around.
(I'm using 7.x-1.21.)
