My use case was just to add a product reference field on a node as a Title(link) and because i had 40-50 fields on the product i had to go through and set all of the other fields to hidden. Seemed like a bunch of clicking and waiting to get what i wanted.

Also, when having a feature module which defines the node display and commerce fields, I feel this uncomfortable. I think the visibility defaults should be set same as it is in commerce's view modes.

For instance, in commerce's "Node: teaser" view mode I have only couple fields visible, but when I go see node display fields I see all visible by default. I think it should clone visibility settings from commerce's view mode.
