Could someone here give me a (recipe book) for to build a social networking site, i.e.
1/ Feature of a social networking site that can be accomplished with drupal's modules
2/ Features that cant or not yet can be accomplished with drupal's modules

I realise that social networking sites are always bag of all-sorts so please dont be cynical with the responses.

I don't really see any feature that Drupal can't handle.

It's fairly easy to set up forums, users' blogs, image galleries, users' profiles,...
On the admin side, it's also convenient to manage users, content or comments.

For more specific needs, you can use modules like cck or flexinode to create about any kind of content (eg. classifieds, directory, book reviews,...).

The best way for you to discover it would still be to try it out.

Drupal can do it all. That's what it's designed for - modular expansion and extension. You might have to do some programming and you'll probably want to install some modules, but social networking sites (and just about any other web site) are perfectly doable in Drupal.

Do you have some specific concerns or more precise functionality you're looking for?
