I am trying to find a solution to the following annoyance. Can anyone offer a module I should use or something else?

People log in use the charole module and all they do is chat.

I want the chat function to only be available to members who have posted a node in the last 7 days and posted either a node or comment "today".

I believe chat is good for the community and a reason to register but not THE reason they register.

I am thinking that the block should appear under these certain filtered things or it is triggered after node or comment creation within 24 hours.

A comment only trigger might lead to spamy comments to get to the chat. So that is why I suggest they should have a node (must have a word limit) or node in the last 7 days and a comment in the last 24 hours.

Genuine users will get filtered automatically and can use chat freely this way.

Thanks for any ideas on this guys.

I could create a new role but not sure if this a role which can be set up for just "has posted in the last 24 hours"

I could put it on a triggered page that users go to after they have added content only but this would be a very few users.

dunno -

In the last 2 years I have used drupal why is there never a reply on this forum? Drupal is great but the people a little unhelpful.

Really? There hasn't been a single reply in this forum in 2 years? Funny, when I look down the forum list, I see all sorts of topics with replies. Must be my imagination.

What you are posting here is for help writing custom code to interface with some unknown chat functionality. You don't say what chat module you're using or give any clue how it might be restricted. And there is no module that I know of that will do what you want out of the box. The closest I can think of is adapting Userpoints.

The Drupal community is very helpful but we have limited resources and posts that require us to spend time pulling details out of the poster or come up with custom solutions for them tend to not get answered when the forum is overflowing with posts that are much easier to answer. It's all a matter of efficient use of resources.
