When trying to search by sending only filters in the url, the search is not triggered. This functionality was supported in previous (5.x-1.x) version and is critical for faceted search implementations.
It seems that in the 6.x versions it supported using the hook_menu_alter, but this functionality was not back-ported from 6.x versions.
