Hi there, I set the length of trimmed posts to 400 characters, but when someone posts a huge block of text with no breaks, the whole paragraph is posted on the main page until the first page break. Is trimmed posts broken in someway? I could mod the php scripts, but I would rather see if there is another option.

Try the 'superteaser' module.

If it doesn't suit you, it should be easy to modify drupal: the relevant code is at the end of node_teaser().
