Hi,

For my job at a project agency at an institute for higher vocational learning in the Netherlands, I'm expected not only to work with Drupal but also to give back to the community in the form of patches and documentation. To that end it would be helpful to be granted documentation admin rights so I could attach screenshots and flow charts to pages like http://drupal.org/node/1053388 without creating issues.

Would it be possible to be granted these rights for Drupal.org?

Thanks in advance,

Matthijs de Jonge

Hi Matthijs -

Since it looks like you're a fairly new member of Drupal.org and don't maintain any modules, etc. I'm going to mark this as "postponed" until I can see a little bit more of your documentation work. (Having the Docs Admin role lets you edit some pages that are more "high level" on Drupal.org, so we have to get a good idea of your writing first.) Don't need to wait too long to reevaluate though.

In the meantime, I noticed the page you created http://drupal.org/node/1053388 is about the module http://drupal.org/project/uberpos which doesn't seem to have any documentation linked from its project page. Also, the page you posted hasn't been placed into a book outline so that it shows up in the online documentation - we should probably find it a home in the book outline.

Would this make sense to become the main documentation page on Drupal.org for this module? (You might want to get in touch with the module maintainers and see if they would want it to be... or if there is any existing docs for it on Drupal.org) If it is, then I can give it a URL alias so that it is easy to find as well. If the module maintainer would like you to collaborate on the docs for the module, I would be ok with giving you the docs admin role right away (since that's a bigger commitment).

I also notice that the images hefox uploaded are only attached at the bottom - would you like for me to embed those into the text or are they ok as is?

Let me know - and feel free to ping me on IRC #drupal-docs if you need any help or want to discuss.

Hi Arianek,

A link to the documentation has now been added to the module page. So that's one issue out of the way. I don't think it's necessary, however, to make this page the main documentation page on Drupal.org for the UberPOS module, as it's intended for developers only.
I'm also not sure whether this page needs to show up in the book outline, as it's very specific documentation for a very specific module that very few people use. As long as it's linked to on the main module page - which it now is - it'll be discoverable by people who need it, I guess. But feel free to disagree.

The images should probably remain at the bottom, since they're large-ish and somewhat complicated flow charts that probably work best when viewed in isolation.

As far as postponing my request on account of my junior status on Drupal.org : I understand, and it's not a big problem since I can always create an issue whenever I want images attached to pages.

Thanks for your time and for your input,

-- Matthijs

Fantastic - thanks for answering all my questions!

The only one that will need addressing is the book outline - we do actually want all pages to live *somewhere* in the book outline (if it doesn't eventually someone else will move it into the book outline while combing for orphan pages).

What is the gist of the module's functionality? I'm sure we can find a relatively fitting spot for it (no need to make it the main docs page for the module if that's not needed though).

The UberPOS module provides a POS (Point Of Sale - cash register / till / etc) system built on top of the Ubercart e-commerce modules.

hey - i found (and aliased) the main ubercart page - there's a whole bunch of stuff in there, so that definitely looks like the appropriate place to put it! http://drupal.org/documentation/modules/ubercart

Which, in retrospect, seems very obvious.

Could you make it so there's a mention on that page that there's a POS system available for Ubercart?

A direct link to developer documentation for that POS system probably doesn't need to be on the Ubercart front page, though, I'm guessing?

I don't think we necessarily need any links from the front page - just having the page in the book outline, people will see it while scanning the menu. shall i move it in there?

Sure.

Done - and now, because you were so patient and responsive on this issue, I've also assigned you docs admin role. :)

Please review the style guide for online docs http://drupal.org/node/338208 and ping me (arianek) or jhodgdon on #drupal-docs if you need any help. (If in the future you want to edit any top level docs pages that you now may have access to - it's much appreciated if you can file issue to make a proposal and/or have the changes reviewed).

Thanks for helping with the docs!

Hey, thanks :-)

I'll be very careful, of course, and make sure I'll read through the style guide for docs before my next contribution.
