Instead of scheduling for a certain date can you schedule actions to happen after x (time)?
For example, I've got classified ads that I want to unpublish after 2 weeks. Could that be done?

I'm not a programmer in any way shape or form, so I can't supply a patch. There's nothing for me to follow up on, I'm at the mercy of others for this sort of thing.
