When I read the documentation and the issues here, it seems like it should be possible to use the ad_external module to make one Drupal site an ad server for another (or several others). But the documentation never comes out and says whether or how you can do this.

When I enable the External module, the Create Advertisement page gets a text field that accepts an external URL. On individual ads is not where I would expect to see a field for connecting two Drupal sites in this way. And yet the sample text for that field indicates a PHP file, not just a static image file (though I know PHP could just serve a static image).

I also get an admin/content/ad/configure/external page that claims to be settings for External Ads; but the page is blank, with no fields other than a Save button.

Could someone nudge me in the right direction here? What am I missing?

+1 on both links mentioned above.

I used Ad module to serve the ads for numerous other sites for some time.

Drupal 6 is EOL and no longer supported. Closing this as outdated for that reason. Thanks for your contribution!
