I have been considering using Flash for my layouts for some time. The reason? More flexibility with the UI. Easier to add life (animation, effects, etc). Last night I proved proof of concept. There are still a lot of things that need worked out. My plan is to make it for my own sites but if others are genuinely interested then I would do the extra work to make it more generic.

I would like to get a count of users that would really use it to reply here. I am doing a simple version for a paying site and after that I have no work lined up.

I would like to use an xml based theme. I would need some help with the xml theme. The way I am trying to build it is that you would not have to reload the page. It would retrieve the page (index.php or xml_index.php page) whenever a link is pressed. The details still have to be worked out here.

Despite my personal hatred for flash, I can't deny the usefulness of your idea or even the advanages of flash over "just" php.

So, because of that, I say +1 good idea.

Depending on the way things go the Flash IDE may be required. I don't want anyone not familiar with Flash to assume that this theme will be manageable completely by drupal. All of the dynamic things will be available of course but any graphical customization would have to be done in Flash.

I've been thinking of doing the same for quiet some time but could do it because of my limited knowledge of Drupal frame work. However, I am fairly competent when it comes to Flash, so if you want I can help you in any way possible. May be we should discuss it some more...

having a framework to use drupal data in flash would be great for me. I'm fairly competant with actionscript and I know my way around the drupal module system pretty well. I haven't worked much with themes though, I was actually planning on learning more about them just for this purpose.

I think an XML based theme could have more possible applications besides importing into flash. I'm not sure what they'd be, but it's an interesting idea to explore.

I think thats a great idea.

I just recently heard of Drupal - which seems to be a very great option for creating a CMS for what I need. I've been looking into creating something like that for flash based websites, because I work A LOT with the music industry which in most case's want flash websites.

So, I need a way for them to edit, audio add and remove tracks, video gallery, photo gallery, news/blog, tour dates, and text based page content.

So I'd LOVE to see what you can come up with, because I've not had the time, I'm actually a graphic designer, not really a developer.. I just read and trail and error until I get it right.. lol
