Here's a very basic patch to get this module working for Drupal 5.0.

I've come to the conclusion that we outta go looking for a new diff engine. And the CSS needs some re-working. It doesn't really work with the default theme in 5.

committed a heavily modifed version of this and branched and release node created. we have diff again! yeah.

if someone wants to make a 4.7 version, feel free. i'm happy enough with 5 only.
