I want to note somewhere that it is not necessary to overwrite the book and taxonomy modules with the wrapper modules directly on the file system.

Go into your system-table and look for
"modules/book.module" and replace this value with "modules/category/wrappers/book.module.copyme"
the same works for "modules/taxonomy.module", too

This is quite old issue with no activity, and perhaps a duplicate of #367686: Taxonomy Wrapper enabled on one site breaks other sites that don't use Category module and many, many others. It seems to be fixed on 6.x. Also 4.7.x is obsolete now. So closing this issue.
