I've used this module before and considered it excellent. I'm now in the process of building a new website (based on Drupal 4.7) and the Category module is exactly what I need to implement it how I want it to work. The only problem is that I'm not using CVS and the Category module seems to be designed only for development.

Will it work with the latest official release of Drupal or will there be an official release of the Category module coming any time soon?

After more than 2 years, not only 4.7.x release came out, but also 5.x, and now even 6.x is in beta stage. This is really obsolete issue. Closing.
