I have this same issue (D7), however when I go to the update tab is says "All of your projects are up to date."

I get

Drupal core update status Failed to get available update data.
There was a problem checking available updates for Drupal. See the available updates page for more information and to install your missing updates.

on the Status page

I have no issue like this with any of my D6 sites.

Title: Available updates generating error » Available updates generating warning on modules page (but not on available updates page)
Version: 7.2 » 8.x-dev
Category: support » bug
Issue tags: +Usability

This is still an issue in 8.x.

Immediately after installing drupal, users are presented with this error when they visit the modules page (not a good first impression). Could we hold off on the warning until cron runs for the first time?

Better yet, when you click the link to go to the available updates page, the message is gone, and there is no indication that you need to click the "Check manually" link in order to make the error message disappear on the modules page.

I tested this on Drupal 8.9.12 (so it would show as needing an update) and with Drupal 7.79-dev and using an outdated version of the pirate module. I was not able to reproduce the problem.

Therefore, closing as cannot reproduce. If you are experiencing this problem reopen the issue, by setting the status to 'Active', and provide complete steps to reproduce the issue (starting from "Install Drupal core").

Thanks!
