After the removal of a file the statistics are still there. I believe this is a bug because this is very inconvenient when you use views integration - the file is still listed as a normal downloadable file and there is no way to filter "dead" files. To avoid this the statistics should also be deleted or at least flagged as removed so they can be excluded from the views query.
