The Handbook has a nice page on installing a new Drupal site in a multisite environment, but this is unfortunately for 4.x only, and insists on making me edit the settings file by hand. 5.x has a web installer (finally) which I will never want to work without again. Unfortunately, this installer will always try to place the settings file in the default directory, which is inconvenient in a multisite environment.

Is there a way to have the web installer put my new settings file into a folder that matches my site's full hostname instead of the default folder? The current way of installing, then renaming the default directory is very annoying.

"No, this is impossible" would still be a better answer than none at all. But I guess that's what the answer is, anyhow.
