At least here (drupal-7.0, image_resize_filter-7.x-1.12) I am unable to generate thumbnails with image_resize_filter.

I see an error like that on the page with an image inside:

Warning: imagejpeg() [function.imagejpeg]: Unable to open '://resize/myimage-497x372.jpg' for writing: No such file or directory in image_gd_save() (Zeile 273 von /var/www/mysite/htdocs/modules/system/image.gd.inc).

The module generates the HTML code, so I see a

<img src="http://mysite/%3A//resize/myimage-497x372.jpg" alt="sometext" width="497" height="372">

But when I try to access this path, I get (of course) a 404.

Any ideas what went wrong? Seems to me as if the php wrapper "protocol scheme" gets lost somewhere inside the module...

Could you post the code that is in your original textarea (on node/x/edit)? I need to know the original code that caused the problem in order to reproduce it.

I tried to reproduce it, but now the error is gone.
No idea what's now different.
Probably some cache cleanings helped...

Strange... But now I can use this module to do the image resizing :-)
