hoping someone can help me before i have to re-install drupal...
i am on go daddy, using drupal 6.2

My site has been fine, untill i recently. I added the cck and views modules to check them out.

i have a few links that open in a new window. in the body of pages, i simply use the target=blank tag.
i also have one link in the menu nav bar, which i installed the "menu attributes" module to get it to open in a new window as html will not work in the nav bar links fields.
this all worked fine, untill i tried out the cck and views module.
after adding those 2 modules, those links that are supposed to open in a new window/tab, still do, but the main window ALSO goes to the linked destination as well.
i uninstalled cck and views, and ran cron and flushed caches.
the problem still persists.
If i change themes, the problem still persists, so i think it is in a drupal file somewhere?
Can anyone point me in the right direction?

I am getting this problem too, using the External Links module. Was fine until very recently. I have not carried out any updates to any modules or the core.

Not sure of the answer to your complete problem but the target attribute should be

target="_blank" (with an underscore)

Found the problem with my setup, was the Google Analytics module. disabling this stopped the behaviour.

I disabled my google analytics and that fixed it. i had recently updated it.
(i am using the underscore, just abbreviated for the post title)

Hi !

You can solve this without disabling Google Analytics. Go into the module configuration
admin/settings/googleanalytics

And disable "Track outbound links" under the tab "Link Tracking Settings"

There is a bug report for this at Google. Have a look :-)

There is a workaround for this if you realy need to track your external links (do it yourself style) ;-)
