Channels / taxonomy usage of synonyms & related terms

I was curious if managing news makes use of term synonyms and related terms? Specifically if create a channel based on one term would automatically include articles of synonymous terms? From my initial testing I haven't been able to do that but I figured I'd double check first.

If not... I can add more detail and make this a feature request. :-)
